Food group Good Food Group has acquired Jakobsens, which sells honey and dressings in the Nordic region. Jakobsens' products are characterised by innovation, naturalness and high quality. This makes the acquisition a strategic fit for Good Food Group, which wants to bring natural, Nordic food to consumers in the Nordic region and around the world.
Jakobsens was founded in 1996 by beekeeper Knud Hvam and former retail buyer Jan Jakobsen, and since then Danish and Nordic consumers have embraced Jakobsens' products, making the company Scandinavia's largest honey producer. In recent years, with a strong focus on innovation, Jakobsens has created entirely new products in categories that naturally revolve around the use of honey. The company has achieved this by introducing honey as a natural element in dressings, as well as launching a wide range of new products such as liquid, organic and fair trade honey, and agave syrup.
With the acquisition of Jakobsens, Good Food Group is now ready to bring Jakobsens' products to the rest of the world.
- I am proud that we in Good Food Group have been given the opportunity to buy Denmark's strongest brand in honey. Jakobsens has innovated the honey market over the past years by introducing new, exciting products that consumers have been demanding, and this has made them the market leaders today. Our task now is to develop the business internationally through Good Food Group's strong sales network, while focusing on developing and maintaining a strong position in Denmark. Moreover, Jakobsens' natural products fit very well into our existing range, says Lillie Li Valeur, CEO of Good Food Group, and continues:
- We are extremely pleased that Jakobsens' CEO Helle Reinevald and all Jakobsens' employees remain part of the company, and that we thereby retain the innovative power and good relations. Helle Reinevald has been appointed Chief Innovation and E-commerce Officer in Good Food Group, and our customers and consumers can expect to experience an even more exciting range with lots of new, innovative products in the future.
CEO Helle Reinevald, who has been the majority shareholder in Jakobsens since 2012, is also pleased with the transaction:
- At Jakobsens, we have been on a growth adventure for the past eight years, and now we are at a place where we need to develop our export capabilities further if we want to continue to grow. Here we need an organisation with more muscle and greater distribution power. By becoming part of the Good Food Group, we now have access to more international markets, and I look forward to continuing to develop new and exciting products for consumers in Denmark, Europe and the rest of the world," says Helle Reinevald.
In 2019, Good Food Group gained new owners in the form of Maj Invest Equity, and in early 2020 a new management team was put together with Lillie Li Valeur at the helm. The acquisition of Jakobsens is the new management's first major investment as part of the company's new strategy to bring natural, Nordic food to consumers in the Nordics and around the world.
